Strengthening local capacities in the face of climate risks: a participatory tool in action
Within the ASTA project framework, Afourar hosted a training and work session on 12-13 April 2025 for elected officials, administrative staff, and members of advisory bodies of partner communes, on the participatory climate vulnerability and risk assessment tool.
Training and work session in Afourar
Within the framework of the ASTA (ⴰⵙⵎⵓⵙⵙⵓ - ⵜⴰⴷⵔⴰⵡⵜ) project — “Towards inclusive territorial public policies for climate change adaptation”, Afourar hosted, on 12-13 April 2025, a training and work session dedicated to local elected officials, administrative staff, and members of advisory bodies of partner communes in the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region.
This event, held at the Youth Capacity Building Centre, marked a structuring step for the operationalisation of the participatory climate vulnerability and risk assessment process.

Training objectives
The training aimed to:
- Deepen participants’ understanding of climate adaptation issues at the local level;
- Experiment concretely with the methodological and digital components of the tool;
- Test appropriation of the digital platform for climate data collection and analysis.
The tool used was co-constructed by AIDECA, in collaboration with external climate change experts and with the active involvement of local government representatives.

Consolidating a common foundation
This workshop made it possible to consolidate a common foundation of knowledge and practices among the different territorial actors, in order to facilitate the future implementation of the participatory climate diagnostic in each partner commune.
Supporting communes
AIDECA will accompany the communes in applying the results and observations from this first pilot phase on the ground, with a view to anchoring a sustainable, inclusive, and evidence-based territorial approach in local public policies.
