Democracy and Governance
Championing inclusive decision-making and transparent, accountable governance
Learn MoreAt AIDECA, our Democracy and Governance programs aim to strengthen democratic processes and improve governance at the local level by promoting citizen participation, transparency, and accountability.
Morocco has made significant strides in decentralization and local democracy over the past decade, creating new opportunities for citizen engagement and participatory governance. However, challenges remain in building the capacities of local institutions, ensuring inclusive participation of all citizens—particularly women and youth—and establishing effective mechanisms for accountability.
Our initiatives focus on supporting municipal councils and local administrations to develop inclusive policies, implement participatory budgeting processes, and create platforms for meaningful citizen engagement in decision-making. We place particular emphasis on strengthening the role of civil society as a crucial partner in local governance.
