Strengthening elected women’s leadership and advocacy skills

As part of its work to strengthen elected women’s leadership and advocacy skills, the AMSAWAS+ bootcamp brought participants together for rich discussions and intensive workshops. The session strengthened participation tools, explored inclusive territorial governance mechanisms and supported women’s active role in local decision-making.

The programme’s strategic themes

This stage focused on the following themes:

• Changes to the electoral framework ahead of the 2026 elections: an overview of the main developments and the opportunities available to strengthen women’s political representation.
• Gender-responsive, inclusive territorial planning: integrating a gender perspective into territorial policies and programmes to support more equitable and inclusive development.
• Inclusive communication: strengthening effective, diversity-aware communication to build proximity and trust with citizens.
• Personal development and leadership: developing the personal and leadership skills elected women need to carry out their roles with greater confidence and effectiveness.
• Local government finance: understanding the foundations of local financial management, resource mobilisation and budget monitoring.
